There are so many home remodeling shows now.
Everyone wants to be either Chip or Joanna.
I will admit, I fell into the trap. When I bought my house it was a clear fixer upper. I watched enough shows to know what works and what doesn’t. So what if I had never swung a hammer before? Who cares that I didn’t own tools? I was sure it wouldn’t be that hard. I bought myself some tools and made grand plans. I wanted to take down walls, change flooring and totally remodel my kitchen. I also had grand plans on adding an outdoor deck to my house. No one in my family is handy and I don’t have a husband. It was a project just for me alone. Well I lasted about two weeks before I finally threw in the towel. I realized my skills are limited to scrapping wallpaper, painting walls and picking out new hand towels. I can’t actually tear down or build anything. Thankfully for non talented women like myself, you can hire a building and construction company to do everything. I talked to the general contractor and begged him to make my ideas reality. Turns out I wanted to take out a load bearing wall so that was a no no. Thank goodness I didn’t try though. I also then was told certain parts of the house had brand new hardwood floors. The construction guy was really firm that removing the new floors would be dumb. The two of us were able to settle on updating the kitchen, adding the deck and adding new tile to my bathroom. The cost of the remodeling and construction company to do the work wasn’t that bad!
