When I was a college instructor, I learned that there are people who are book learners, people who learn by hearing, people who learn by reading, and those who learn by utilizing their hands.
People who learn by using their hands are called kinesthetic learners.
Being a kinesthetic learner is the most challenging style of learning because most of our traditional schooling only consists of reading and listening. Therefore, Kinesthetic learners tend to be less interested in going to a traditional college, and rightly so. Because of that, I regularly took a special interest in my Hands-On style of students when it came time for them to try to figure out what they were hoping to do with their lives. I actually was regularly a fan of suggesting Technical Training After High School. It was generally frowned upon by the administration, and we never easily saw eye-to-eye on that. As a matter of fact, most instructors believed in recommending the trades or some other kind of non-College Path. One afternoon, the father of a single of my students came in to talk to me. Oh, and that is usually never wonderful news. This time, however, it was fantastic news because he wanted to talk to me about his Heating and Cooling business. He basically let me know that Heating and Air Conditioning employees are hard to get, however not only that, he wanted to hire Heating and Cooling device workers straight out of high school if he could manage that. He would deliver them a salary to work as a sort of a/c scribe. They went to college to learn everything there is to know about Heating and Air Conditioning technology, a/c repair, Refrigeration, Heating and Cooling in general. Now that is a pretty nice deal. Because I was able to work side-by-side with this generous Heating and Air Conditioning device supplier owner, I was able to help many of my kinesthetic learners.
