I have lived in apartments most of my life, and all kinds of quality apartments as well, and there is something very valuable that I learned from those places.
Always get an apartment with monthly leasing, or at least monthly lease options.
Why? Because this will give you time to get to know how reliable your landlord is. When I was younger and less experienced when it came to apartments, I once stayed in a corporate suite, which was a beautiful place for sure, but the landlord was basically absent. Whenever I would have an issue, such as the A/C unit going down or having a weird smell, I would go to call the landlord and all I would hear is ringing. After I signed the contract, the landlord ghosted me. I had to get the air conditioner as well as many other things, like one of the doors, repaired, because the landlord never responded. When it came to my second apartment, I was a little more wary, but I still went with a year long contract affordable apartment. Once again, the landlord proved to be unreliable, and would often leave me to solve the apartment’s issues. Now, I have learned it is best to live in monthly furnished rentals, because this will give you time to know the landlord. I will only stay in short term housing, because on more than one occasion, one of the apartments would have an awful landlord, and instead of waiting a year, I only had a month, sometimes less, to go. I suggest if you are looking for furnished apartments for rent, you only go with ones that are month to month leases.
