Since the statute of limitations, I can finally write a blog to publicly talk about what I did seven years ago.
- Don’t worry, this is nothing sinister or creepy, it was just a little bit of theft… and not the shady kind of theft that was meant to line my pockets, either.
This was more like the Les Miserables kind of theft, where the guy steals a loaf of bread to feed his family. Let me set the scene for you – it was the summer of 2015, which was the hottest summer on record for this part of the country. My problem came when our central HVAC system broke down, and I realized that my children were actually in danger from such high temps! I simply did not have the money to buy a new HVAC system, and the local techs told me that was what I needed. The old air conditioner had been grinding away for over 12 years and had finally given up the ghost. My only choices were to force my children to endure a deadly summer with no A/C, or to get creative with it, so I decided to get creative! I drove outside of town to a place where a rental company had several air conditioned cabins alongside a lake. These cabins were largely unoccupied, so I found a hidden one and used my tools to remove the window mounted air conditioner from it. This was an air conditioned valued at roughly $400, but stealing it helped my family to make it comfortably through the summer heat.
