Outdoor HVAC equipment needs to be secure

It’s difficult to fathom just how desperate some people can be; but then there are a ton of people in our humanity who are just so desperate, but often, that comes with socioeconomic factors they have no control over… And there are other circumstances like addiction and mental health issues that drive people to do desperate things; and lately, some of those folks have been targeting the heating and A/C unit outside of residential homes, this is very much the smash and grab sort of burglary.

But it’s happening nonetheless.

Thieves are actually ripping apart the heating and A/C unit that sits alongside the house. This is the heating and A/C unit that sits inside a cottage and is a section of the heat pump system. There are hundreds of dollars worth of fancy heating and A/C components inside these cottages; when I first heard about this sort of theft, I thought perhaps they were pulling out compressors or other such heating and A/C equipment. But that’s not the case at all, however instead, they are destroying all of that heating and A/C unit simply to get their hands on a small amount of copper… Then the heating and A/C unit comes with lots of small copper fittings and other copper tubing. These heating and A/C unit thieves simply rip apart the heating and A/C cottage in order to get their hands on that little bit of copper. Then they actually get ripped off by unscrupulous buyers who pay them pennies on the dollar. While I actually feel for these folks, I’ve taken steps to secure my heating and A/C equipment. I now have a reinforced steel cage that fits over the heating and A/C cottage and locks down to the concrete pad underneath.
