From the outside, the lake house was pristine and perfect in every way. The windows, the paint, even the landscape around the long winding driveway, it all was so picturesque. Once the people I was with and I stepped inside, things were different. The website had not posted more than 2 pictures of the interior of the cabin, and now the people I was with and I saw why! It was not dirty, but it was shabby, and it smelled moldy. Always be super careful about your AirBnB rentals, people, or you can end up stuck in a dump enjoy this cabin! When the people I was with and I went to turn on the central a/c, the smell only got worse. Every one of us came to learn that the lake house itself was quite clean, but the air duct for that old, grimey a/c was the problem. Apparently the owners were only upset about appearances, because once I detachd the grate off 1 of the air vents, I saw how horrifically dirty the air duct had gotten. These people had obviously never cleaned out the air ducts once, and there was a thick coating of dust and detritus all through the system. In general, air duct in an Heating and A/C system needs to be cleaned out every 2 to more than two years at least. I called up the rental agent to complain, and demanded a full refund. There would not be time for a cleaning of the air air duct, and I felt it was unsafe for us to stay there for the weekend. I wanted a refund so I could check us into a nice motel with a nice, clean a/c, and start enjoying our weekend.

After the people I was with and I moved into the bungalow, my partner Bess started feeling sick.

She was constantly prone to flu symptom attacks, but this was on another level! It was such a shame, because she was so happy to transport into this locale.

It’s on the gentle slope of a hill, overlooking a long, placid lake and a wide open plain of orchards. Truly a stunning landscape, and now it was our permanent view of the world! The air quality in this section was pretty good, and the people I was with and I could not figure out why Bess was having such an ill reaction to this locale. Finally I took off an air grate to look into 1 of the air ducts, and there was our answer. First of all, the sides and floor of the air duct was thick with old dust, who knows how long it had been collecting there? Second of all, there were hundreds of little pawprints in the dust meaning that at some point there had been animals residing in the air ducts. I right away called a local cleaning service and asked if they did deep cleaning of the air duct. They referred myself and others to an Heating and A/C corporation, who had the tools and the skills for a total cleaning of all the air ducts and vents. Since the air ducts had not been cleaned in years, and there had been an animal presence in them, it was recommended that the people I was with and I have all the air duct sterilized. It was not cheap, but once the air duct was cleaned out, Bess got back to feeling enjoy herself again.

When you go into a theater, it’s not far off from getting on an airplane.

In both cases, you enter a small, enclosed area, plus rest shoulder-to-shoulder packed in with a bunch of people you’ve never met. You rest there, breathing the same air with these strangers, for hours on end. It is a recipe for the spread of COVID or any other airborne virus, so it’s no wonder that most theaters had to close down. I am only getting back to work now after being closed down for almost a full year. The movie company is unusual now, with a much stronger emphasis on air quality plus Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C systems these mornings. Thanks to COVID, all the people worries about their air quality, because terrible air could mean a long plus uncomfortable sickness. Not only does my smart temperature control deliver myself and others precise control over the temperature, which is an improvement over the movie theater, but also there is far superior air quality. Without the influence of COVID, both of us would still be going to the cineplex for Date Night, but now that air quality is such an ongoing concern, both of us will just keep it in-house for the time being.
