We have an excellent reputation because the owner of the HVAC company knows to hire only the best.

He has a gift for seeing potential in people who he knows are going to do great. At the same time, he has zero tolerance for people who don’t take the job seriously. He has often told me that I have a similar gift when I am training new HVAC technicians. I have been working for this HVAC company for about 25 years, and I still want to continue working for many more years to come. Recently, the owner of the HVAC company surprised me when he wanted to have a talk. He let me know that he was planning on retiring and he wanted somebody he could trust to take over his HVAC company. I was wondering who it could possibly be, and when he told me that he wanted me to take everything over, I was shocked. It was such an honor to be chosen to run his HVAC company, but I realized the pressure was on. He said that he knew it was something that I was born to do. He said I easily was the best HVAC technician in the company, and that was saying a lot because there are a lot of highly skilled HVAC professionals that work for us. He asked me if I would accept taking care of his HVAC business and I said of course I would. I actually had a lot of great ideas for improving our HVAC business and expanding into other states as well.

I became alarmed when I got home from work and I noticed that my house smelled like something was burning.

The smoke detectors weren’t going off but I could definitely smell smoke.

It took me a long time to pinpoint the source of the smell. After a while, I started noticing that the smell became worse whenever the furnace would turn on. I figured the smell must be coming from my furnace so I turned it off and called up the HVAC professionals. However, the HVAC people were not able to come out for two whole days. They told me that the smell was probably just dust burning off of my system and that I could leave my furnace on if I wanted to. I left my furnace off anyway and used a space heater to keep warm that night. When the furnace technician finally arrived he cleaned my furnace system and duct works very thoroughly. Then he turned the furnace back on and there was no more burning smell. The technician told me that I should have my furnace maintained at least once a year and then I would be able to avoid this kind of issue. I decided to go ahead and sign up for the furnace maintenance plan. I pay a certain amount of money every month and I get up to three free emergency calls and one free cleaning every year. It seems like a pretty good deal. Besides, I don’t have to pay extra to have a technician come early to my house. Next time I won’t have to wait a few days, a furnace technician will just show up within 24 hours. That seems rather convenient.

Cooling and heating business

I worked in office jobs while putting myself through college and I hated it! When I graduated, I quickly came to the understanding that the career path I was on was not what I wanted. I bounced around to a few different types of jobs before finally landing a job as a farrier. That’s when I found my true calling. I work outside all day trimming horse hooves and I love it. The only thing I don’t like about the farrier work is how hot it is. At least in an office job. I get air conditioning and heating, when I need it. As a farrier, I drive from one barn to the next and none of the barns have air conditioning or heating. Is very dirty work and I’m always uncomfortably hot. I sometimes question my career choice when the heat index gets over a hundred. However, the air conditioner works really good in my truck. I’m able to cool off between barns. Besides that, I keep my house super cool and comfortable. When I come home from a long day’s work, I love how cold my house is. I use a smart thermostat to keep my house this comfortable. Since my schedule changes from one day to the next, I don’t know when I’ll be home until I’m on my last job. That’s when I use my cell phone to tell my smart thermostat to crank my air conditioner down to about 60 degrees. When I get home, about an hour later, it’s nothing but comfort.

My kids have played on the town’s little league team for the last three years.

We love going to the games in the summer and it definitely burns up their extra energy which is great.

At the end of each season there is an awards ceremony where the kids get trophies and somewhat silly titles that make them happy. The awards are usually held at the local banquet hall because it is large enough and air conditioned. We really appreciate the cool comfort and it is fun for the kids. This year however there was a problem that was evident from the time we arrived. There was an odor in the place that was really awful. The air smelled like someone’s dirty socks and I didn’t know how I was going to make it through the night. There was obviously a problem with the HVAC system and they really should have told us about it before we arrived. We could have postponed the event a week while they fixed the problem. Perhaps they just needed to air the place out but it was way too warm outside to open the windows. We mentioned it to the waiter as he came around to the table to take our drink orders and he simply said that they had been dealing with the problem for weeks and the owners had not addressed it yet. I am sure that others, like ourselves will be looking for a different venue next year because we had to suffer through an evening with very smelly air. This will certainly be a costly mistake on the owners side.

Well, this Mother’s day will be one for the books for sure.

• Not only was I surprised by the beautiful new flowering tree that I will be able to enjoy for years to come, I was also surprised to wake up and see snow in my backyard.

How can this be? I know that the weather forecast had called for a chance of a snowflake or two and colder temperatures but a full inch of snow is just crazy. It is almost the middle of May and we never have temperatures like this. The kids had to put the tree in the garage so that it wouldn’t be shocked by the crazy weather that we are having. In fact I decided to go sit in the garage and admire my beautiful new tree and enjoy a cup of coffee. I plugged in a large space heater and sat there in denial of what was going on outside. The space heater made the garage feel much better and I could close my eyes and pretend that I was enjoying the outdoors. My husband thought that I was crazy and refused to join in on my fantasy break. He did light a fire in the wood stove to keep the house warm as we had already shut down the furnace for the year. The cold snap is only supposed to last a day and then we will be well into the upper 50’s again. This whole climate change thing has really thrown Mother Nature for a loop and I really hope we don’t see these frigid temperatures again next May.
