When I was a child our Mom got sent to prison for a few years.
He & a few of his friends would hijack semi trucks full of cargo to resell… Don’t get me wrong, these weren’t violent crimes appreciate carjackings; No a single ever got hurt, they just stole trucks, ditched the rigs, & hid the trailers until they could sell the merchandise.
I was in our teens when Mom got out of jail, & he said that he would never go back to jail ever again. He has a legit way to make money, he said. One of the trailers he stole was full of Heating & A/C device & space heaters, & he knew where it was hidden. The two of us could sell it, & it would be totally legal since the statute of limitations ran out on the crime, & there was enough Heating & A/C device to get us some serious money. One thing that our Mom didn’t take into account was the passage of time, & how much Heating & A/C technology has improved over the last decade, What was worth so much money a decade ago is now worth pennies on the dollar, because no a single wants cooling systems that are so old! It was not without some value, of course, because there are 60 space oil furnaces on the truck, which the people I was with and I can sell at a flea market for a few bucks apiece. I assume it genuinely depressed our Mom, though, when he realized he spent so much time behind bars for what amounted to a few hundred bucks worth of Heating & A/C equipment.
