I never liked just plain wooden furniture.
I liked overstuffed furniture and furniture that had cloth on the seats.
I also liked leather chairs and sofas. Leather chairs had an appeal and charm that spoke of age, wisdom, and money. Unfortunately, I didn’t have money and age and wisdom hadn’t found me yet. When I was shopping for furniture, it was leather chairs and overstuffed furniture that I first looked at, but it was Shaker furniture that attracted me. The simplicity of the wooden furniture just had me in awe. Shaker furniture was simple, but it had an elegance. I wasn’t sure about the orange paint on the coffee table, but it was original and I was sure I could grow to love it. My husband wasn’t fond of having a lot of wooden furniture in our house, but I agreed to have an overstuffed sofa and a leather reclining chair for the living room. Just agreeing to the leather chair appeased him. After some haggling over prices, our house was eclectic. We had shaker furniture mingled with leather chairs and overstuffed sofas. The dining room held wooden chairs and a matching dining room table. There was a sideboard to match, and I was sure it was all what they called European. Our bedroom furniture looked like it came out of a magazine from Paris. I couldn’t believe how pretty our house was and the dining room, with its wooden chairs and table, was the prettiest part of the house. My sister thought my home was a decorator’s nightmare, but it was my house, and we loved it.
