My cousin lives in the south where it rarely snows.
He tells me to come and visit whenever I feel too cold in the north.
We’ve been close ever since we were kids. Every summer, our parents would take us on vacations together. Other times we’d go stay with our grandparents. Since we each didn’t have any siblings, we became each other’s siblings. We went to the same college, but found work on opposite sides of the country. Last year, it was my turn to go and visit him during winter. I was hoping to enjoy some warm weather and not endure months of snow. However, the weather proved surprising because they had the worst winter storm they’ve had in years. The water pipes froze, there wasn’t power for several days, plus my cousin’s furnace broke. He called me a day to my set travel date to say there had been some new forecast for cold weather. However, he wasn’t too worried since winter wasn’t as harsh in the area. I flew to him and he picked me up from the airport. His car felt lovely since his heating system was working effectively. However, when we arrived at the house, the furnace had failed. My cousin told me he’d turned it on the previous day when it got too chilly. After some time, the furnace began making some funny noise. My cousin didn’t think this was a big issue so he ignored the furnace noise. Now, we had to wait for a few days for a HVAC worker to come and fix this issue. Since it was too cold, we booked a hotel and decided to have a mini staycation.
