Trading an HVAC tune-up for a drum kit

By the time I was finished, that HVAC system looked and worked like it was brand new again, and the owner was more than happy to give me the drum kit my son wanted

I thought it was cool when my teenage son Jason wanted to start playing the drums. I wouldn’t even mind the noise from him practicing in the garage, because I find the sound of drums relaxing. The problem came when we wanted to buy him a drum kit, because these things cost as much as a car! Getting a couple of drums would be affordable, but an entire drum kit consists of a dozen or more drums and other things like cymbals, too. I talked to the owner of one of the local music stores, to try and work out a deal. I told him I was a certified HVAC tech, and could trade work for drums. Being the owner, this man was keen to save money where he could, and he knew that I was offering what could be thousands of dollars worth of HVAC work. We made a deal on the spot, and that weekend I went back with my work van and my HVAC tools and spent twelve hours tuning up his entire system. I even cleaned out the ductwork, because it hadn’t been done in many years. By the time I was finished, that HVAC system looked and worked like it was brand new again, and the owner was more than happy to give me the drum kit my son wanted. I told the man that I was open to future HVAC gigs, and was happy to work under the table for cash so neither one of us had to report it to the federal government or the IRS.
