In for a shock but the gas furnace helps a ton

There is no way to really fully articulate what it was like when I experienced my first northern winter.

  • This was something that really had to be just endured for me.

And I really hadn’t given that much thought to how different it would be to live in a place where you had to have a gas furnace or a boiler to get through the winter. I just really had no conception of what that sort of cold was all about. But man, did I ever get shocked back to reality that first winter. My husband is from this region and we met in college. I’m a southern girl born and raised. I’ve never lived a minute in a place that had a real winter. I went skiing out west once when I was a kid but that felt like a novelty really. Heating comfort from the fireplace along with the HVAC heating made it feel as though it was just so easy. That wasn’t the case when my new house was covered in a foot of snow and I didn’t even know how to get the car out of the driveway. Living in a cold winter is far different than a visit to a ski resort. No, I spent that first winter up here running from one HVAC heated spot to the other. I could hardly even take being outside at all. Even in my office, I had to put a space heater under my desk just to try and stay warm. It’s been a few years now and I’m getting a bit more acclimated to the winter. But I’m still so very thankful for the gas furnace that’s for sure.
