The ironic part about my job is that I am a born-and-bred city boy who had never set foot onto a farm before a few months ago.
Now I spend almost every part of my day on one farm or another.
I have to say that I really like it! City folk have the bad habit of looking down on anyone who doesn’t live in a big city. The population centers are where you find the best activities, and the best jobs. That’s what I used to think, anyway, but now I take my skills on the road, and bring heating and cooling repair services to the most rural of Americans. Out here there are very few HVAC techs available to help the farmers, so they try to figure it out on their own. While there is not much call for air conditioning repair there is always a need for help with heating systems. The winters are so bitter and cold that a quality heating system is essential not just for your home and your family, but for your animals, as well. People that keep large amounts of livestock have a tremendous need for space heaters to keep their barns and stables suitably warm through the winter. The heaters need to be strong enough to keep the animals alive, and sturdy enough to take a beating. The animals don’t intentionally damage the heaters, but it still happens constantly. The heaters also need to come equipped with a failsafe system so that they don’t start a fire when they get damaged.
