I woke up to a drenched bed.

It was afternoon and my baby had fallen asleep next to me. I had noticed that the house seemed increasingly hot and humid since I got back from the hospital from having my baby. At first, I thought it was just my body starting to get adjusted to giving birth. Then the heat continued and every day it got worse. The heat made me immediately angry! I contacted the ac workman and set an appointment to have the HVAC unit checked. Since I got pregnant, I do not remember ever having the air conditioning technicians come to do the annual thorough air conditioning maintenance. Just before I left for the hospital, one afternoon, the unit let out a loud bang but since it was still working, I did not see it as a big issue, besides with everything that was happening, it totally slipped my mind. When the experts who knew more about air conditioning came home, they started by examining the unit. They found that the heat exchanger was cracked and could no longer work. I had to order a totally new air conditioning unit from the air conditioning supplier. Though it was out of my budget, now with a new mouth to feed, the ductless multi-split was a worthy investment. It worked as effectively as the commercial air conditioning system at the office. The air conditioning installation took roughly about five and a half hours. The experts advised me to adhere to the annual a/c service and the regular air conditioning repair service. I could finally breathe, the humidity in the air was gone. The dial thermostat also functioned perfectly. The workmen from the local business were indeed very helpful as well.

I bought my home a year ago, and during the entire year I was mostly busy trying to get my work life figured out.

Now that I have mostly settled in and have things going as planned, I can start focusing on some of my home responsibilities that I have been meaning to get around to.

A good example is the HVAC system. When I bought this home, I was warned ahead of time that the A/C does have its issues. I knew this and still continued to buy the home. The air conditioning when I moved in wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. I figured when they told me they had issues, they meant it was practically broken and that I would have to deal with being without heating and air conditioning for a while, but that was not the case. The A/C device actually worked okay, it just couldn’t cool rooms very well. It really only cooled whatever room it was in, which was disappointing, but I expected worse so I can’t complain. Anyways, I finally had the time to get a new one installed, and I already knew what I wanted. The A/C installation process was very smooth and within hours, I had the new one installed and the old one being carried away. With the new A/C, I didn’t want to take any chances of it messing up, so I decided to buy the best of the best filters, which are HEPA filters. This way this will preserve the health of my new HVAC device.

Growing up, my brother and I were very similar.

Even still to this day, we are still very similar.

Although a lot of siblings get into frequent fights, my brother and I have been best friends from the start. Not only are our interests very similar, but even when we were in high school and we were considering our future careers, our interests for future careers were the same. My brother and I were competitive and would compete with a lot of things, and so us having the same career probably wasn’t the best idea. One career choice both of us were considering for a while was being a HVAC technician. In the end, I decided to go and be a dance teacher, another hobby of mine. My brother on the other hand, went ahead and decided to go for a cooling professional. I was supportive all of the way, including when he went to HVAC university and I was incredibly proud when he graduated as a certified HVAC professional. I continued on with my career, and every now and then when we met up he would tell me what it is like being a cooling specialist. I’m glad to hear that it has worked out well for him, and he makes decent pay and is overall happy with his job, which not many people can say. I also take comfort knowing that if I did decide to become a HVAC worker, it would be a good career. My brother eventually wishes to be a HVAC business owner, and I wish him the best of luck with that.

I wasn’t really sure what to do when my A/C broke down.

• The last thing that I needed was another thing to stress about.

I tried a few troubleshooting methods in hopes that it might restart the A/C, but nothing worked, much to my unhappiness. I hung out with my friend later in the day, and after having a couple of beers, I told him my dilemma. He told me that I should just try to fix it myself, I really didn’t like that idea. I usually leave that kind of thing up to the A/C professional, but the more I considered it, the more I wondered. I went home that night and searched up how to repair a HVAC device. To my surprise, a bunch of results popped up. I was beginning to feel a bit more confident that I could do it myself, so I pulled up a video and started watching how they did it. It looked easy enough, so with the help of the video, I took apart the air conditioner and looked inside. As soon as I saw all of the electrical parts and components, I knew I couldn’t continue further. That was just begging for disaster, one mistake and I could completely mess up and damage my A/C device permanently, and it just wasn’t worth the risk, there were too many things that could go wrong. Even though I didn’t want to, it was better if I left the repair up to the cooling professionals then risk messing up my own cooling device and void my warranty, I couldn’t even begin to imagine how much that would cost.

I have been living on my own for quite some time now, but when I first moved out, I needed a lot of help from my parents.

Living on my own was such a scary experience, and I had so many questions! Thankfully, my parents were always happy to help and answer any questions I might have.

I remember when I started experiencing HVAC trouble, my dad would tell me how to change the air filter and do basic HVAC maintenance. Well it took me awhile, but eventually I figured out how to live on my own properly and I didn’t need to ask the questions anymore. Now that my parents are older, I guess it is my turn to help them with heating and cooling needs. Just the other day, my parents called and asked me for suggestions on a good HVAC business. The one they had been trying to contact was acting shady so I searched up local A/C corporations in their area, and I was able to direct them to a highly rated A/C company. They thanked me and hung up. Then my dad called me again the next day to thank me again, and explain what happened. Apparently the home was feeling very warm, even with the cooling device on. Luckily it was an easy fix, and the A/C worker that came out refilled their refrigerant, and that made the air conditioner work as good as new. I was happy to hear that I could help them, and I couldn’t help but to think about how times have changed.

I have a love-hate relationship with going outdoors.

In one way, I love it.

Not so much for the environment, but because of the beautiful scenery I am surrounded by. I am lucky enough to live in an old home far off from most people. My home is also surrounded by forest, and waking up at dawn to watch the morning light peek through the trees is so pretty. Hearing the early birds sing and feeling the breeze in my hair is also awesome. So that is the nice part. At the same time, I have allergy issues, and because of that, any time I go outside I start getting a runny nose and I start sneezing. My eyes start itching and I just feel miserable. I have always been sensitive to my surroundings, but honestly I forget sometimes because of how often I am in my cottage. You see, my cottage has a whole home indoor air purification system. The air cleaner does a fantastic job of keeping my indoor air quality high, to the point where I don’t even need allergy medications anymore. Combine the air cleaner with the HEPA filters in my air conditioner, and you can see why I could almost forget that I have such bad allergies. That is the great thing in HVAC technology, we have come so far and advanced that I can practically make my allergies disappear by living in my own safe and pollen free bubble with the utmost high indoor air quality. I’m so thankful for the impact it has made on my life.

My dad doesn’t always make much sense. He can be very frugal with money. Hence I said he can be, with some things, like food, he will spend extravagantly. He’ll easily spend over $300 a week on groceries for all kinds of junk food that we really don’t need. But anything else? Suddenly he becomes a penny pincher and is digging for coupons. He is really bad about this when it comes to our heater and A/C. Don’t even get me started on the thermostat, the smart thermostat is always supposed to be at 79 degrees exact, no more no less. I used to get past this by using his phone to control the cooling system, but now he’s locked his phone. Well he keeps the house 79 degrees, but with the sun shining in our home all of the time, it’s close to the mid 80s. The humidity is also really bad here, and we have continuous mold and mildew issues because of it. I have continuously recommended turning down the thermostat, or at least getting a dehumidifier, but my dad is having none of it. Even my mom, who usually always takes his side, agrees with me on this one. But because of my dad’s stubbornness it looks like I won’t be getting a cooling breeze anytime soon, and will be stuck in a hot house. I can’t wait for the cooler seasons to come. On the bright side, my mom told me that if it continues to get bad, she’ll get a dehumidifier, so at least the humidity won’t be as bad.

Well today officially marks my wife and I being without air conditioning for a month. Now you might be wondering why we are without A/C. Well it’s because we don’t have one. A month ago, my wife and I decided it was time to upgrade our HVAC system, so we had our old one removed. It was then we realized how big of idiots we were, because we removed the old A/C before buying a new one, and we had no idea what kind to buy. So my wife and I started discussing it, and we couldn’t come to an agreement. My wife wants to stick to the central air conditioner, but I wanted to try something new like a heat pump or radiant heated flooring. Since we are both stubborn, we both didn’t want to go with the other’s choice. After a month though, I sat down with my wife and we agreed to call a heating and cooling technician and discuss it from there. The A/C specialist told us the cheaper option would be the geothermal heat pump. I couldn’t resist telling my wife I told her so, and she rolled her eyes. So the heat pump it is. The A/C corporation was free, and we were able to have the new system installed the next day. It is so nice to have heating and air conditioning again, and to have the issue of deciding past us. Next time we go to get a new HVAC device installed, we’ll need to get a new one first before having the old one removed.

One of my biggest faults is when I have a problem I spend so much time stressing and worrying about what to do, I end up getting nothing done. Then usually something bad will happen if I wait too long. You would think I would learn after a while, but I always end up doing the same thing over and over again. I can’t help it, it’s like I am paralyzed while worrying. I know if I don’t do anything, that it will remain a problem, but I also don’t know how to get rid of the problem so I continue to worry. I had the exact same thing happen with my air conditioning unit. I have a portable A/C device that I take with me everywhere. The portable HVAC has lasted me a long time, but it is now showing issues. I know a local A/C company can fix the issue, but I wasn’t sure how much that was going to cost, and I am on a budget. So then for the next few days I continued to worry about what I should do, while not doing anything. I was worried that if I waited too long, then it would break, but then I also worried that what if it wasn’t as bad as I thought, and I wasted my money? A week passed and I still hadn’t made up my mind on what to do, and because of that, my cooling machine broke. My precious portable A/C device was now broken, and if I had just taken action sooner, maybe it could have been fixed without issue.

I like to talk to people and I have gotten to meet all different kinds of people because of my career.

I also have always loved to repair things, and repairing air conditioners and furnaces just seemed natural to me. Most people I know might don’t hide the fact that they don’t take good care of their HVAC devices. Most people just want it to work and then once it’s working completely forget about taking care of it. This used to bother me, but now I have gotten used to it. Anyways, there was one person I visited though that was different. As soon as I visited his home, he told me he was confused how his air conditioning unit was messed up because he took such good care of it. I believed him, until I actually opened the cooling machine up. When I opened it up, it was probably in the worst condition I have ever seen. The air filter hadn’t been changed in at least 6 months, and the entire machine was covered with dirt and debris. The man assured me that he had frequent HVAC cleanings and HVAC tune ups and changed the filter every week, but I didn’t believe him. Either he was getting another A/C professional that didn’t do anything, or the guy was lying, and I think it’s the latter. I didn’t say much to the guy, but finished the cleaning and repair. I don’t understand why he would try to lie to me. As an A/C professional, I can tell whether you’ve taken care of your heating and cooling machines or not.
